"Marvin Telekunsky"
An Order of Canada recipient and seasoned
veteran of the stage and
screen, Jan Rubeš has had a film career spanning well over 30 years.
Graduating from the Prague Conservatory of Music in 1945, Rubeš became
the youngest basso at the Prague Opera House and in 1948 represented
Czechoslovakia at the International Music Festival in Geneva where he
was awarded first prize. Appearing in the Vancouver Festival in 1958,
playing opposite Joan Sutherland in Don Giovanni, he spent a
decade as the singing narrator of the radio program
Songs of My People on the CBC.
He is perhaps best
known for his role as the stern Amish patriarch in the Harrison Ford
film, Witness. Other credits include Dead of Winter,
The Outside Chance of Maximillian Glick, Class
Action and Snow Falling on Cedars.
